Detective Bureau
The Detective Bureau investigates all crimes within the Township. These may include burglary, theft, fraud, assault, arson, homicide, prostitution, narcotics, and other crimes. The detectives are on-call 24 hours a day and respond whenever necessary. The detective's typical duties include crime scene investigation, interviewing all related parties, and processing arrest and search warrants.
The Detective Bureau routinely works in conjunction with various local, county, state, and federal agencies to solve crimes. One officer is assigned to the Bergen County Narcotics Task Force which investigates the illegal use and distribution of drugs within Bergen County. Another officer is assigned to the Computer Crimes Task Force (CCTF). This unit investigates crimes such as internet fraud and child pornography. The CCTF has conducted a number of undercover operations which resulted in the apprehension of pedophiles throughout the state who have actively tried to solicit minors over the internet.
In addition to crime investigations the Detective Bureau also conducts backgrounds checks of candidates applying to become South Hackensack Police Officers. The detectives are also responsible for the registration of sex offenders (Megan's Law), fingerprinting, and licensing for professional entertainers.
